Rural Health Summit 2005

The Rural Health Symposium was the first major conference focusing on rural health in New Zealand. For the first time it drew together a wide range of people who worked in or had a passion for rural health. Held at Wellington's Westpac Stadium, more than 150 people attended the July event.

Speaking at the summit, then Associate Minister of Health Damien O'Connor highlighted the main issues facing rural healthcare in New Zealand at the time, also outlining the government's plans for the future, including the continued upskilling and retention of rural health practitioners, and the expansion of telemedicine.
